Optimization of Task Migration Cost in Infrastructure Cloud Computing using IMDLB Algorithm

Shahbaz Afzal, Ganesh Kavitha · 2018

Load unbalancing is the critical issue in the Cloud computing environment faced by the cloud providers that degrades the performance and efficiency of the computing resources along with the Quality of Service (QoS) guaranteed on the agreed Service level Agreement (SLA) between the customer and provider. Load balancing is viewed as a problem but intrinsically it is solution to the problem of load unbalancing situation that has two undesirable facets- Overloading and under-loading. The proposed work is concerned with the task load balancing. During the load balancing process, the surplus tasks have to be drifted from overloaded to under-loaded machines and in accomplishing that the cloud provider has to bear some added cost which constitutes the migration cost that is basically a penalty in terms of decline in profit of the capital gain while performing migration process. It is correlated with the cloud service provider (CSP) in the process of load balancing and should be practically low. An improved modified distribution load balancing (IMDLB) algorithm is proposed to achieve low migration cost. The results show that the IMDLB algorithm provides the most optimal migration cost.
