Transparency in the Supply Chain

Julia Walker · 2019

Transparency is a key foundation of any solution to the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Once businesses know where their key impacts, risks, and opportunities lie, they can focus their resources effectively. As the supply chain involves the product from initial processing of raw materials to delivery to the customer, a focus on supply chains has an impact on the achievement of many of the SDGs. Companies will need to embrace the growth potential of responsible environmental and societal polices and drive sustainable business practices through the value chain. On a positive note, regulation, policy, and disclosure requirements have played a critical role in driving transparency in supply chains and businesses' reporting requirements. Technology is key for traceability and transparency. Blockchain has captured hearts and minds for its ability to transform current practices and provide more transparency in the supply chain.
