Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) normally compose nodes with limited energy. LEACH algorithm is sufficient to increase the lifetime of network, however, WSNs that composed with large distance between nodes are not able to perform as excellent as expected. In this paper, a new algorithm trying to prolong the lifetime of WSNs and deal with the large distance problem between nodes is proposed. In the new algorithm, the intermediate nodes are inserted between ordinary node and cluster head to get the optimal path from node to cluster head, and find the most suitable cluster head in class. Simulation results prove that, with this new algorithm, the lifetime of WSNs has been prolonged and at the same time the energy consumption of WSNs has been reduced.
