History and authorship

Albert James Mills, Milorad M. Novičević · 2019

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book begins by problematizing the relationship of authorship to historical accounts. It discusses the influence of starting points on historical accounts and uses this discussion to explain and segue into particular starting point of “the historic turn,” around which various actors and debates are introduced in the emerging field of management and organizational history. The book provides an amodernist account of the development of the historic turn and the implications for study of the production of history. It examines the debates generated by the historic turn and Booth and Rowlinson’s associated manifesto for the development of management and organizational history. The book considers the historic turn ten years upon its launching by Clark and Rowlinson and examines its impact on sharpening debates between positivist and postmodernist historiography.
