ITS system architectures for developing countries
Toshiyuki Yokota · 2004
This Technical Note focuses on system architectures for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). As discussed in Section 1, an ITS system architecture is an extremely useful tool for helping guide the introduction, and ongoing development of ITS in a systematic and consistent manner. It provides a basic framework for planning and deploying ITS so as to help ensure sound, flexible design. Section 2 provides a survey of important ITS system architectures in the developed world, including those in the U.S., Europe, Japan, and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Besides providing illustrations of successful system architectures, this information can serve as a starting point for the development of an ITS system architecture in developing countries. Section 3 provides basic guidance on how developing countries can build their own ITS system architectures using a step-by-step approach. This process is discussed in greater detail in the ITS Toolkit.
