Understanding Data Exploration Search A brief Study of User’s Exploratory Search facets

Samit Kumar, Vikram Singh · 2018

In recent years, `Big Data' evolution leads to the development of new methods and systems that allow users to interactively explore large data sets, such as document/multimedia collections, social media or biomedical datasets. The approaches to support user's exploratory interactions range from the new novel interface for information visualization to specialized query/data interfaces. Though, several limitations uncovered during the evaluation of exploratory search systems. One major reason is that these systems rely on a loosely defined model of the exploratory search. We investigated the other factors of the dependence of user search performance. In this, diverse factors related to an exploratory search ranging from the nature of the search, suitable exploratory methods, etc. are reviewed. The investigation is intended to examine the core-research issues and tentative directions. Thus, we envisioned the challenges exist in the current exploratory techniques, in two brackets: User's inability and limitation in DE system.
