A Heuristic-based Task Scheduling Method for Reducing Waiting Time in Cloud Environment

Task scheduling is a well-known NP-Hard problem that requires a near optimal solution for mapping tasks to resources. The waiting time is one of the most significant performance measures in scheduling. Increasing the waiting time may cause starvation problem or it may increase the reject rate. This paper proposed a method which aims to reduce the waiting time by classifying tasks and VMs (virtual machine) into two separate categories. The method considers priority of tasks as well as priority of VMs. It uses a heuristics function for allocating cloudlet to VMs based on priority factors. This method is simulated in CloudSim toolkit and the results show an improvement in terms of waiting time and resource utilization.
