ANTIPSYCHOTICS AND LOW VITAMIN D – ADDITIONAL DATA CALLING FOR DRUG CAUSALITY ASSESSMENT

The recent systematic published findings suggest that patients with psychiatric disorders have an increased risk for lower serum vitamin D levels (1). However, the exact causes of this phenomenon and its relevance for clinical outcomes have not been fully explained yet. The population-level data suggest that there is a positive correlation between optimal serum levels of 25(OH)D and better mental health indicators (2). In addition, active vitamin D supplementation shows some improvements in the symptoms.
