MANET stands for mobile ad-hoc network in which a node can send, receive and forward packets. The major difference between MANET and WiFi/Cellular network is that, WiFi/Cellular network relies on infrastructure whereas, MANET is infrastructure less. In MANET there is no central server does exist to authenticate and secure all the activities. Therefore, a MANET may be vulnerable to different attacks. One of the security issue is black hole attack which occurs while using AODV protocol. In this attack, the malicious node drops the data packets by attracting the source node by sending false route reply packet. In this paper, we have surveyed some of the existing mechanisms for mitigating black hole attack in MANET while using AODV routing protocol.
