This chapter reviews the evolution of a technology paradigm that can make near real time flexible software development feasible. Recent advances in technology provide an opportunity and challenge to reinvent how technology is leveraged for efficiency and agility. Technology is clearly central to the issues of efficiency and agility. The chapter outlines a technology platform and methodology that can address the chronic time to market and flexibility issues and enable businesses to become both efficient and agile. It discusses a meta model-driven business process automation platform that can enable near real time software development largely without programming and purely using metadata. The chapter presents an entirely new platform called RAGE AITM. With its extensive set of abstract meta model-driven components, RAGE AITM reduces the software development lifecycle, all the way from requirements elicitation to implementation and to visual modeling exercises.
