Completing Projects Successfully
James Arthur Ward · 2017
This chapter shows data center managers how to control projects so that they are on time, within budget, and successful. Every data center manager has been involved in projects that have been less than 100 percent successful. Too many times, a project lasts longer than expected, requires greater staffing than is readily available, and strains data center resources; and sometimes a project ends in disaster. Projects can and do fail if requirements are known, documented, understood, and agreed upon by all involved parties. Many projects fail when resources are devoted to the wrong things. Project scope, objectives, and requirements must be completely defined, documented, and approved. In addition to defining project scope and objectives, a data center manager must also define the project in detail. Equipped with accurate project status information, a data center manager can assess progress and detect any deviations or problems at the earliest possible point.
