Without doubt, at some point the device on which you are reading these words has prompted you to perform a software update. A regular occurrence and an occasional nuisance, these updates might not always bring exciting and evident UI improvements, but always deliver critical under-the-hood security fixes to patch holes in the software by addressing and replacing faulty programming.
