The development of smart cities depends on the development of the Internet of Things, in the perception layer of the architecture of the Internet of the things the wireless sensor networks are an effective way for collecting information from the environment in which they are deployed, several technologies can connect these wireless sensors to each other depending on the distance between them, in this article we have chosen the Metropolitan area networks especially WiMax-Mobil protocol to connect this sensors to each other it's allows coverage of 50 km, it is a data communication protocol that is defined at the level of the physical layer and the data link layer, the simulation that we made with the OPNET simulator we mount the performance of this protocol at the data link level, in the case of using a voice application and in the case of using an HTTP application.
