Sound in practice
Leo Murray · 2019
Having established a model which can be applied to sound generally, and applied it to a range of audiovisual media, and then to the practice itself, the framework is recapped and the main points discussed. This chapter ties together the framework, its concepts and terminology. and the language to analyse and describe both the product and the practice of sound at micro and macro levels of analysis, being equally applicable to individual sound elements and the soundtrack as a whole. The conceptual models used can be used to explore what the audience hears and what the practitioners do as they manipulate sound for a particular effect. Its flexibility also allows it to accommodate other sound theories and offers a broad and flexible means of analysing sound itself, sound practice and also provides a metalanguage for both.
