Quasi-Cyclic (QC) Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes having capability of incremental redundancy (IR) with extended parity (EP) have been standardized as channel coding schemes for the fifth telecommunication generation (5G) New Radio (NR). This paper analyses the behaviour of QC-LDPC codes of 5G NR based on Base Graph 1 (BG1) to ensure the performance for further practical development and applications. In this paper, we consider a single carrier transmission under additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels. We use Extrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) chart to evaluate and predict the performances as well as the behaviour of the QC-LDPC codes. We reveal the mechanism of IR and the decrease of channel coding rate due to the use of EP. When all EPs are transmitted, the EXIT chart keeps open at about 3 dB lower in Eb/N0compared to the case of without EP, which is indicating that EP can be optionally transmitted depending on the condition of the channels leading to the changes of channel coding rates.
