Infographics are everywhere today; especially in our news. They are used to express some of the most important factors that shape our lives; from income inequality to fluctuations in the rate of employment. From the late Enlightenment pioneering of William Playfair to the modernist elitism of Edward Tufte, this chapter explores different perspectives on news infographics and considers what they contribute to our news; from tasteless chartjunk to interactive forms of civic engagement.
