Efficient Approach to Ensure Temporal Determinism in Automotive Control Systems

Masataka Ogawa, Shinya Honda, Hiroaki Takada · 2018

It is important that automotive systems have temporal determinism, which implies that the execution timing for data communication between runnables is constant. However, it is difficult to ensure temporal determinism for a system on a multi-core architecture. Logical Execution Timing (LET) communication can ensure temporal determinism and facilitate the migration to a multi-core architecture. Tasks communicate shared data with other tasks via an LET process that is executed at fixed intervals. In this paper, we propose an approach to realize LET that is suitable for a powertrain application to which sub-scheduling is applied. Additionally, we propose approaches that distribute LET processes into several CPUs to reduce the execution time of LET processes.
