Ensemble Learning Approach For The Enhancement Of Performance Of Intrusion Detection System

i-manager s Journal on Information Technology · 2019

The recent growth in computer networking, sensors, communication, and other internet related technologies have aided the advancement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructures, applications, and services (Al-Jarrah, Al-Hammdi, Yoo, Muhaidat, & Al-Qutayri, 2018) . The number of devices with the capability of collecting and sharing data is also on the rise and resulted into ubiquitous connectivity that makes organizations (both public and private sector) and individuals to rely heavily on cyber space for our day-today activities and thereby making ICT to be an inevitable technology in governance, businesses, medical, transportation, education, agriculture, and defense (Jabbar & Aluvalu, 2017). The emergence of big data generated by ubiquitous internet connectivity combined with the disappearance of network boundaries and everincreasing sophistication of cyber-attacks, such as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), computer malware, and network scanning has increased the level of network intrusion and malicious attacks on the network security goals; Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability (CIA) of data in the cyber space (Al-Jarrah et al., 2018) . Network intrusion is an unauthorized access to an information system or an attempt to adversely compromise the CIA triad of an information resource (data, computer, and network) on the cyber space (Sellami, Idoughi, Baadache, & Tiako, 2016). With respect to the continuous growth being witness in the area of computing that has also advanced the sophistication of
