A spoof or artefact is a counterfeit biometric that is used in an attempt to circumvent a biometric sensor. Presentation attack detection (PAD) aims to distinguish between live and fake biometric traits. The Fingerprint Systems Liveness Detection Competition (LivDet) has the goal of comparing both combined software/hardware-based fingerprint liveness detection methodologies that are incorporated into a full fingerprint system. Additionally, LivDet Systems 2017 added an additional component assessing the full implementation of a system with both a PAD module and matcher. The competition was open to all academic and industrial institutions. The number of competitors in this edition has grown tremendously. Nine total entries were submitted for the PAD only competition and five entries were in the PAD with matching competition. For the PAD Only competition the winning system is Dermalog ZF1 with an APCER of 1.62% and a BPCER of 1.33%. In the PAD with matching competition the winning system is Dermalog ZF1 with a FRR of 5.12% and a IAPMR of 1.51%.
