Exploring paragraphs from the outside

The paper strives to examine some conspicuous external parameters of graphic paragraphs in contemporary British English. It is based on a corpus composed of 2,070 paragraphs representing three register corpora and six subcorpora. The study surveys mainly registerspecifi c features of paragraphing and discusses an interplay of factors affecting paragraph length and related phenomena.
