Low-cost ADS-B Collectors for Distributed Aircraft Surveillance

Efficiency is a fundamental problem in systems intended to capture, process and send a considerable amount of data in short periods. In this work we developed an embedded systems application for the Android operating system aimed at collecting airborne aircraft messages compatible with the Automatic Dependent Surveillance in Broadcast mode, processing these messages and supplying them to a remote server. In order to evaluate this union of embedded hardware and software, performance analysis was used to compare the proposed solution to an alternative implementation for a general-purpose platform with similar performance. A set of metrics was used in the evaluation based on confidence intervals to validate the results.
