Layered Solutions for Dynamic Service Chaining

Zoltán Zsóka, Khalil Mebarkia · 2019

The new generation of networking tends to apply Network Function Virtualization (NFV) for serving the traffic demands. The problem of Service Function Chaining (SFC) is one of the critical points of orchestrating Virtual Network Functions (VNF). Various dynamically arriving traffic demands shall be served according to the list of required functions and the Quality of Service (QoS) needs. This paper presents heuristic SFC solutions that consider both the graph of the allowed connections between VNFs, and the load of the underlying network. Their performance is compared by QoS properties in a case study.
