Past Present and Future of Scaling Behaviour in Telecommunications Networks

Darryl Veitch · 2016

An historical overview of the discovery of scale invariance in telecommunications networks is given. This is followed by a critical overview of the ‘second wave ’ of discoveries, leading up to the present day, concerning multifractal behaviour. An overview of wavelet methods for the detection of scale invariance is then given, and the paper concludes with an indication of the statistical tools most needed to enable definitive statements about the presence of scaling into the future.
