Today, Internet and Information Technology industry is developing vastly. Every day new devices, applications and technologies are introduced. The Internet provides a fundamental platform and support for connecting applications and technologies across multiple networks. Internet of Things (IoT) is a concept in which multiple and large number of smart devices are connected together to exchange the information using the Internet. Due to increasing growth and demand of smart networks and smart devices, Quality of Service (QoS) has become an essential aspect across the IP networks to support the required bandwidth and provide better services. In today’s era, QoS is considered an important parameter to support IoT networks for maintaining data quality. In this research paper, we have performed a comparative analysis of three queuing algorithms such as First In First Out (FIFO), Priority Queuing (PQ) and Weighted Fair Queuing (WFQ). These experiments were performed as a QoS mechanism to control and observe network congestion in IoT networks. The implementation of the queuing mechanism allows the router to determine the order in which packets are sent out on its outgoing interface based on the priorities assigned to those packets. The designed network was modelled and simulated using Riverbed Modeler (Academic Edition 17.5). The network performances were measured based on parameters Jitter, Latency (packet end-to-end delay) and Packet Loss of the transmitted IP packets for the respective Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Video and FTP traffic and the results are discussed.
