Expert system for the diagnosis of nutrient deficiencies in flue-cured tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum).

A flow chart developed based on the mobility of nutrients was used for developing an expert system to identify and retrieve the information on deficiency symptoms, predisposing factors and corrective measures. The knowledge base of the expert system consists of visual deficiency symptoms for each mineral nutrient along with predisposing factors and corrective measures. This system was developed using Visual Basic net as front-end application and MS-Access as back-end with user-friendly menus. The system enables the viewer to match the observed visual deficiency symptoms in the leaf with the different symptoms displayed on the system and identify the problem as well as remedial measures. With user-friendly menus, it is easy to execute this programme and retrieve the information as per requirements.
