In this paper, we consider a Mobile Ad-Hoc network (MANET) with high speed nodes. For mobile nodes routing has to be done frequently and routing data exchanged. For route discovery purpose, huge number of Route Request (RREQ) packets are flooded in the network. We propose a novel Density Aware Energy Efficient (DAEE) routing algorithm to reduce RREQ packets. Our proposed algorithm helps us identify nodes, only those that must act as packet forwarder or gateway, so that there is no redundant RREQ. More a node is connected with other nodes, more is the node density in that region. Gateway selection takes place by taking into account the relative density of the neighbor nodes. We compare our work with traditional AODV algorithm at different speeds and node densities. Our algorithm is found to be up to 39% energy efficient compared to AODV. The proposed algorithm will obtain longer life and better connectivity in future networks with mobile nodes, e.g., MANET for data mining, data monitoring in a given area.
