Applicable Granularity Theory for Non-Ideal Systems
A.E. Saunders · The Journal of Photographic Science · 1981
From the point of view of granularity, an ideal photographic layer may be regarded as having a random array of light-absorbing centres each of which makes the same contribution to density. It is shown that a number of models which depart from this ideal system, either because of non-randomness in centre position or inequality of density contribution per centre, have features in common which permit the formulation of a simple unified mathematical treatment. Two systems having such similarities are an electron-exposed black-and-white layer and a colour film having incorporated coupler.
