The mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are the foundation of the future Internet due to the increasing demand for mobility. The decentralized concept of MANETs moreover scales the network. In parallel, the smartphone applications with the theme of mobility such as tracking, sensing, post-disaster assistance, and smart-homes are becoming popular. Such applications use the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT). The collaboration of IoT based devices with current Internet protocols is challenging, specifically in terms of mobility and scalability. The changes in the design of routing protocols are recommended by the researchers in order to fit the current Internet model with the IoT devices. In order to design a new routing protocol for IoT devices, it is necessary to study the most widely used protocols for MANETs. For that, in this paper, a comparative analysis of the routing protocols, Ad-hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV), Destination sequence distance vector (DSDV) and Dynamic source routing (DSR) is presented.
