Breast Self-Examination Skill and Frequency: A Review
Joni A. Mayer, Laura J. Solomon · Annals of Behavioral Medicine · 1992
Abstract For breast self-examination (BSE) to reach its potential as a screening method, it must be performed skillfully and regularly. In this review, we discuss both measurement and intervention issues relevant to BSE skill and adherence, including: (a) appropriate criteria for determining BSE skill, (b) training approaches for generalizing BSE skill, (c) potential problems with self-reported BSE frequency, and (d) interventions for encouraging long-term BSE frequency. Recommendations for future research on the specific topic areas are made.
