The integration of autonomous, heterogeneous data and computational resources in the Internet is probably one of the major challenges in the future. Spatial Internet Marketplaces are attractive as a mechanism to enable spatial applications to draw on remote services for supply of spatial data and for data manipulation. In this paper, We described a model of Spatial Internet Marketplace (SMART) in terms of the types of services available through it and the ways in which providers and customers participate. We considered the architecture of SMART marketplace in terms of the components required and the special issues in constructing an infrastructure for a Spatial Internet Marketplace. A prototype application is sketched to demonstrate an application of the SMART model.
