Many new smart devices are being released into the market every day, researchers are going beyond connecting just computers to the internet. These devices have turned smart that, they had gained the ability to detect this state and able to share the information with the other devices in the network and started taking decisions collaboratively. This network of smart devices (`things') connected through the internet is called IoT. IoT changed the traditional user-user communication into device-device communication. As the number of devices increases, the complexity of IoT architecture increases. To know about IoT in a clear way, we need to know about the evolution of IoT. This paper discusses the evolution of IoT. And also presents the architecture to cater the complex needs of a large number of devices. When there is a lot of data being transmitted through the network, attackers will have an eye on it. Even though the IoT architecture is robust, there exist some security issues in it. This paper highlights some of the security issues and measures to overcome those issues. Even though there are solutions for every security attack, attackers always eavesdrop into the network through the loopholes. Researchers in Japan and China are working together for an international technical standard for IoT. Hope in the future researchers pour more into the IoT stream.
