VM-MMT: A Novel Approach for VM Consolidation Over Openstack Cloud Using Linear Regression and Minimum Migration Time

Cloud computing has fast emerged as the realization of the long held dream of computing as a utility. This has resulted in the rapid adoption of the Cloud approach for deploying applications over the Internet. The increasing share of Clouds in the data-centers has brought attention to the need for improving resource usage in these environments. This paper proposes a novel approach for improving the resource utilization and reducing the resource cost over Cloud. The work highlights the process of server consolidation in data-centers where the power and energy consumption are the critical concerns. Here, an enhanced consolidation approach is employed on Openstack framework using Linear regression, Minimum Migration Time (MMT) and new node categorisation scheme.
