Security to information has tremendously changed the way computer and network transactions performed. One of the methods to secure data is through encryption. Encryption transforms information to ciphertext that only authorized user has the knowledge of the key. Some of encryption algorithm includes DES, TripleDES, AES, TEA, Serpent, RC5 and Blowfish (Bf). An enhanced Blowfish algorithm (eBf) is developed to improve its performance by reducing the number of rounds and increase the block length, variable key length with added transformation and shifting method on selected rounds. Results show that the enhanced Blowfish successfully improved its performance with an average of 11.3653% and 9.8028% for encryption and decryption speed respectively. The text file format was used in the simulation in different file sizes with not more than 64kb.
