Abstract Drug discovery is a critical path to the creation of a newly approved drug. Statisticians and statistical methods have a long and expanding history in the successful completion of drug discovery campaigns, and the advent of new technologies brings promise for major expansions. This article describes the stages of drug discovery and provides a sampling of statistical contributions for each stage.
