FEASIBILITY STUDY. MISS-DISTANCE INDICATOR

Dominic S. D'angona, John R. Svaleson · Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) · 1962

Results of a feasibility study are reported on a high performance miss-distance indicator (MDI). Indications are that this system design is capable of providing continuous measurements of miss-distance from 4 to 30 ft within a !2-ft accuracy and from 30 to 100 ft within about !6-ft accuracy. The transponder unit described in this system, which has a -17 dbm sensitivity, occupies a 9.9-cu in. volume; the target unit occupies less than 250 cu in. Also reported are a detailed description of the system including illustrations of breadboarded constructions, an analysis of the over-all performance, and recommendations that are based on experimental knowledge regarding the critical problem areas.
