Offloading computational tasks to a shared computation resource is a promising approach for mobile users to reduce the energy consumption and the latency of the applications they wish to run. This paper seeks to minimize the energy consumption of a set of users offloading their latency-constrained computational tasks to an access point, without placing constraints on the multiple access scheme. We obtain closed-form expressions for the optimal allocation of transmission rates and powers to the offloading users. Our numerical results show that using the full capabilities of the multiple access channel can substantially reduce the energy consumption of the users in comparison to a system in which time-division multiple access (TDMA) is employed as the multiple access scheme.
