Understanding of Linked Data Concept: Implementation and Use in Library and Information Field

With the rapid proliferation of modern information technologies, there has been spectacular growth of its ‘relatives’: the Semantic Web, also known as Web 3.0 or Web of Data. If the word ‘Semantic Web’ reflects the more general concept, ‘linked data’ can be defined as the key tool to realise the idea. This paper addresses a comprehensive picture of the current state of linked data gathering information on reasons, purposes and uses of this technology, together with perceptions on related benefits and challenges as per the experience of the information professionals involved in the implementing process. The broader idea to which LD relates to, is the ‘Semantic Web’ (SW) approach, whose purpose is to communicate the content of web resources in a way that is ‘understandable’ by computers. The goal is to provide a seamless experience of navigating a ‘web of Trust’, where anyone can make. Linked Data that offer a publishing paradigm in which not only documents but also data can be a first class citizen of the Web.
