In the drive to secure personal information, more and more organisations are introducing biometrics as a way of identifying and verifying their customers. The primary goals are to improve customer experience while reducing fraud. However, developments such as the recent court case in Illinois – where a woman sued her employer for violating privacy laws with a fingerprint-scanning time clock system – underline the fact that traditional biometrics may not always be a suitable option, despite their current prevalence 1 .
