How to Scope a TPM Project

Robert K. Wysocki · 2019

This chapter helps the project managers to learn all of the tools, templates, and processes needed to get one started on the right foot with a series of activities that lead to a clearly defined and understood definition of what the traditional project management is all about. The following tools, templates, and processes are described: conditions of satisfaction (COS); project scoping meeting; requirements elicitation; brainstorming; facilitated group sessions; interviews; prototyping; requirements workshops; project overview statement (POS); and approval to plan the project. The deliverable from the COS is a one-page document called the POS. When the POS is approved by senior management, the Scoping Phase is complete and the project moves to the Planning phase. The chapter explains the role of the POS in the project management life cycle and discusses attachments to the POS and their role in project approval.
