Integrity Testing for Personnel Selection: An Overview
John W. Jones, William Terms · 2020
We review the strengths and limitations of a wide variety of personnel selection procedures designed to control employee theft, including interviews, reference checks, criminal background checks, credit checks, graphology, and paper-and-pencil integrity tests. We examine preemployment integrity tests in more depth. Abo reviewed are major concerns about integrity tests, including evidence of validity, classification accuracy, adverse impact research, test takers’ reactions, and privacy protection, to name a few. We discuss the role of integrity tests in controlling negligent hiring claims. Finally, we review the Model Guidelines for Integrity Testing Programs (Association of Personnel Test Publishers, 1990).
