Modeling Movement

Andreas Tolk · 2012

This chapter looks into the details of the core processes of combat modeling: shooting, moving, looking, and communicating. When dealing with these core processes, one has to distinguish between models that use high resolution models to represent the virtual battlefield and those that use aggregates. As a rule, high resolution models model individual weapon systems and their activities on the battlefield. The aggregated models deal with aggregated interactions of groups of combatants. Movement modeling is tightly coupled with environment coupling. The military operations research community often refers to one of the following movement model categories in their studies: explicit grid models, explicit patch models, implicit mobility models, and network models.
