A Novel Priority-Allocated Scheme for Flow-Based Queue Managers

Yang Guo, Zerun Li · 2018

This paper presents an efficient quality of service (QoS) scheme for supporting simultaneous job scheduling of uni-cast and multi-cast traffic to transfer data packets. The proposed QoS scheme functionalities are policing, scheduling, shaping, and queuing of incoming data packets on ingress ports in a network processing unit. Explicit descriptions of this processing module is provided, including the associated algorithm and the architecture of the QoS manager. With the implemented scheduling methodology to arrange packets in the queue, the performance of task completion rate (TCR) can reach up to 49.1%. The register utilization rate decreases by 10.9% with this methodology so that the job scheduling can perform more efficiently. The proposed design of the QoS scheme works on the test programme written in C language and is prone to be adjusted and applied to different data packets.
