Z‐Transforms

Amar Bousbaine · Handbook of Measuring System Design · 2005

Abstract The z‐transform plays a major role in engineering practice. It is used to study the system characteristics and the derivation of the computational structures for implementing discrete time systems on computers. The most important aspects of the z‐transform are presented, that is, characteristics of signals in terms of their pole‐zero diagram, ROC, causality and stability, and impulse response. More importantly, applications of the z‐transform in signal processing are discussed, which covers the computation of the frequency response, and the stability of the discrete time systems. Detailed applications of the z‐transform are covered in ( General Performance of the Digital Filter ; Low‐, High‐, and Band‐pass Digital Filters ; Finite Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) Digital Filters ; and Finite Impulse Response (FIR) Digital Filters ).
