Opportunistic routing and network coding are two new techniques which appeared in recent years. They can make network achieve better performance in lossy wireless networks. But we do not make full use of their advantages yet, because there are some contradictions between them. So, this paper presents a scheme of the optimum number selection of forwarding nodes in inter-flow network coding based opportunistic routing. By analyzing the relationship between number of transmission and the number of forwarding nodes, and the transmission probability between forwarding nodes, we could select the best number of forwarding nodes, and achieve the purposes of minimum number of transfers and maximum of throughput. Thus we ease the contradictions and give play to their advantages. The last part of simulation test proved that select the best number of forwarding nodes can greatly improve network performance.
