Multi-user low-cost Smart Home Control

Jiří Špale · 2018

At least a dozen manufacturers [1] try to conquer a part of the smart home market in 2018. The settings of the control centers and the operation of the actuators are getting more user-friendly than ever before. A common denominator of commercial systems are high initial costs or the need to participate in a subscription model. Some manufacturers try to tie the customers on their own product line by incompatibility of protocols. The lacking feature of many manufacturers is the multi-user capability of assigning dedicated devices to individual users. Currently most devices implement a course-grained access control model where someone in the home either has complete access or no access. The presented article offers a solution with a Raspberry Pi based control center (€ 35) that can control any number of AVR-boards (€ 20 each) with digital and analog inputs and outputs.
