Search Log Analysis Method of Online Shopping Sites for Navigating Item Categories

Yuri Nozaki, Tetsuji Satoh · 2018

Opportunities continue to increase for searching for items on online shopping sites. Users search to purchase target products by changing queries, moving to another page, and accessing pages. Recently online shopping sites have constructed categories, which users can narrow down. If differences exist among search behaviors for each product category, performing a suitable search support for a category will be an effective strategy. In this paper, we analyze search behavior on online shopping sites for each product category. We construct a session using log data and analyze the sequence transition of the completion rate of the query change and page access during the session. Our previous method handled query change and page access as independent transitions; in this method, we integrate them. As a result of our analysis, a new effective search support policy is suggested for item categories.
