3GPP has selected Polar codes as a coding scheme for 5G eMBB control channel that requires codes with short message lengths and low rates. Channel coding plays an important role in deciding the latency and reliability of a communication system. However, the error correction performance degrades with decreased message lengths. Hence, this paper considers the performance analysis of polar codes for short message (message length <; 512) transmission over different channels namely, additive Gaussian noise (AWGN), Rayleigh fading, binary erasure channel (BEC), and BEC with a single deletion. The performance of polar codes over these channels is evaluated using BER as the performance measure.
