The course of study entitled “Modern Methods of Radio Monitoring” was developed for the students of the Department of Special Radioelectronic Facilities, student contract specialists of defense industry enterprises, and for students of additional educational programs. The need for its introduction to the radio electronics specialist training program is substantiated by ever-increasing complexity of the signal-interfering environment characterized by the presence of multiple sources of radio emission, partially or completely overlapping along the spectrum and simultaneously present in accepted processes. The main attention is paid to the two basic methods -MUSIC (Multiple Signal Classification) and ESPRIT (Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Techniques). Both methods were developed more than 40 years ago, but owing to the present-day computational capabilities they are being actively implemented in design of modern radio monitoring systems. There are more than 1,000 publications devoted to various algorithms based on MUSIC and ESPRIT in various direction finding problems, several English-language monographs are published. This course of study will enable students to plan their activities at enterprises of the appropriate specialization, as well as working professionals, to improve their skills in the field of modern methods of direction finding and estimation the parameters of signals of interest.
