Autonomous cars are demanded to recognize objects up to about 180 m ahead. Considering the machine vision is one of the essential sensors for autonomous cars, telescopic imaging of such far objects is important. However, such telescopic imaging was difficult because captured images tend to be suffered by motion blurs caused by the vibration of the car itself. This difficulty could be solved by image stabilization. This presentation reports the development of a new high-speed gaze controller using triple large mirrors for telescopic observation. As a fundamental experiment for image stabilization, the prototype system demonstrated visual tracking of the object ahead at a distance of 200 m.
