Fabrication and evaluation of nylon fiber actuator using Twisting Machine DirecTwist

Actuators made of nylon thread as lightweight and flexible actuator have received attention. As a drawback of this actuator, individual differences in them are known to be large. In order to secure stable performance nylon fiber actuator, we have developed machine to automate production. A machine that twists and wound raw yarn is known as a twister in the field of textile machinery, and we tried to develop a manufacturing machine using this mechanism. In order to automate the manufacturing process of nylon fiber actuator, in This research we report the evaluation results of actuators fabricated using a commercially available twisting machine DirecTwist.
